Losgelassenheit (Relaxation)
Relaxation refers to the horse’s mental state (calmness without anxiety or nervousness), as well as his physical state (the absence of negative muscular tension). Usually, the mental and physical states go hand in hand. The horse learns to accept the influence of the rider without becoming tense. He acquires positive muscle tone so that he moves with elasticity and a supple, swinging back, allowing the rider to bend him laterally as well as lengthen and shorten his frame. A horse showing the correct responses when allowed to chew the reins out of the hands is relaxed.
The Dressage Pyramid of Training or Scale of Training is a term you will often hear in the dressage world. Welcome to Dressage Design ~ our Equestrian division of JAMART Photography. I have loved horses my whole life. I had a room full of Breyer statues and my Dad would take me trail riding whenever he could afford it. I grasped every opportunity to be around horses and when I couldn't, I would draw them. Throughout High School and College I worked at several barns cleaning stalls, grooming and tacking up horses, just to afford riding lessons. Marriage, family and a job transfer distracted me for about ten years. In 1996, my husband, Joe, brought horses into my life with the gift of riding lessons for my 30th birthday. Sometimes I think he dreads that gift, because it has been all about horses since then. Our two beautiful daughters...
