Passage - This is a very collected, cadenced trot that is characterized by elevated movement of the knees and hocks, as well as a defined engagement of the quarters. The toe of the raised foreleg should come to the middle of the cannon bone of the opposing foreleg. The horse should remain calmly on the bit with a raised arched neck and head close to vertical. The poll should be the highest point of the arch.
LENGTHENING OF STRIDE A pace at trot and canter in which the stride, frame and phase of suspension are longer than in the working pace, but the degree of uphill balance required in the medium pace is not expected. The tempo remains nearly the same as in the working pace.

I had a room full of Breyer statues and my Dad would take me trail riding whenever he could afford it. I grasped every opportunity to be around horses and when I couldn't, I would draw them. Throughout High School and College I worked at several barns cleaning stalls, grooming and tacking up horses, just to afford riding lessons. Marriage, family and a job transfer distracted me for about ten years. In 1996, my husband, Joe, brought horses into my life with the gift of riding lessons for my 30th birthday.
